Carl Fowler will join us to discuss the future of cross-border passenger rail, including efforts to secure more Amtrak service to Montreal and to reduce border delays.
The presentation will include lessons from the extension of Amtrak’s Vermonter, and the history of cross-border services such as the Montrealer, Ambassador, Alouette, Laurentian, and the Montreal Limited.
Carl Fowler is a past Vice-Chair of the Rail Passengers Association, a member of the Vermont Rail Advisory Council, and a lifelong member of Transport Action Canada.
Sean Marshall will present a comprehensive and interactive map of intercity transport links across Canada, showing connections and gaps in the national network.
Sean is a Toronto-based geographer and writer, focusing on public transportation, pedestrian safety, and local politics. His writings on local and intercity transportation have appeared in The Guardian, Spacing, and TVO.org.
Our guest speakers will be followed by a general discussion of Alto HSR – formerly High Frequency Rail – including VIA’s promise that Kingston would become a regional hub for passenger rail and how we can advocate for service improvements before 2042.
The public meeting will be followed by our Annual General Meetings. The business portions of the meeting, for members in good standing, follows from 3:00 to 3:45 pm for Transport Action Canada and 3:45 to 4:30 pm for Transport Action Ontario. Members will be sent separate Zoom links for each of these sessions.
